Why Should I Cleanse My Liver?
The liver has over 500 functions. 500!!! Can you believe that? Besides processing and filtering blood, regulating hormones, it breaks down, balances and creates nutrients. The liver breaks down fats that are eaten, converting excess carbohydrates and protein into forms that are stored for later use, while
synthesizing other fat, like cholesterol. The liver produces bile to help break down and absorb fats. Waste products and toxins are removed through bile. The top 7 functions are:

-
Bile production and excretion
-
Excretion of bilirubin, cholesterol, hormones, and drugs
-
Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates
-
Enzyme activation
-
Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals
-
Synthesis of plasma proteins, such as albumin, andclotting factors
-
Blood detoxification and purification
Softening Stones
There is no magic number of days to prep for your liver cleanse, but for simplicity sake, your liver cleanse requires a minimum of 6 days preparation for maximum results. During those six days you will follow a diet that contains no animal products. No meat, fish, eggs, milk, cheese or cream. With the exception of butter. Butter in small amounts is ok
Each day you will drink an 8 ounce glass of 100% tart cherry juice. Preferably tart cherry juice that is in a glass jar with nothing but 100% tart cherries. Some tart cherry juice will need to be diluted. For example, 1 ounce of tart cherry concentrate to 8 ounces water, making it 8 ounces of juice.
Why tart cherry juice? Tart cherry juice contains malic acid. 4 X's the amount of malic acid found in apple juice. Malic acid helps to soften liver and gallbladder stones. Sip on the diluted mixture through out the day. This helps to keep a good amount of malic acid in in the liver and gallbladder all day.

Make sure the tart cherry juice is stored in a glass container.
Not all tart cherry juice is created equal, so get a pure organic brand where the
only ingredient is Tart Cherries.

Softening Stones
For those who don't like tart cherry juice, you can do 32 ounces of freshly squeezed granny smith apple juice a day. You can also do malic acid capsules. Just crack open 3 malic acid capsules in to 4 ounce hot water. And then sip on that over a couple of hours. Do this 2 times a day. The softening of the stones is a critical part of the process, so make sure you don't skip this part.
Soften Those Stones

Prepping for your Liver Cleanse
Items needed for the cleanse: Liver Cleanse Kit, Heating Pad (Optional), 1 Grapefruit or Lemon.
To soften stones, do one of the following 6 days prior to your cleanse 32 Ounces a day of fresh granny smith apple juice, 3 capsules 2 x's a day of malic acid OR 8 ounces of Tart Cherry Juice. You don't need all 3, you just need to chose one of these methods to soften stones. We love the tart cherry juice, but you can do one of the others if you want.
You will want to do your liver cleanse on a night where you are free and the next day you have to rest. This process is a 2 week process, and you should schedule 1 to 2 colonics each week during this cleanse. The actual liver cleanse is done at night and you will want to make sure you don't have anything going on that night, or the next morning. Here is an example schedule of the liver cleanse
WEEK 1
Monday: Stone softening of choice, vegan diet
Tuesday: Colonic, Optional but recommended. Do a colonic 1-2 days before your liver cleanse), soften stones, vegan diet
Wednesday: Soften stones, vegan diet

Diet:
6 days prior to your liver cleanse, you will begin a vegan diet (No meat, No dairy). If weight loss is desired, follow our diet for weight loss section. Choose one of the stone softening methods as stated above.
Day of Liver Cleanse
The day of your liver cleanse, don't eat or drink any fat.
2:00 PM: Do NOT eat or drink anything, even water, after 2 o'clock. If you break this rule, you could feel quite ill later.
4:00 PM: In your liver cleanse kit, there is a bottle with powder in it. You will mix the entire bottle of powder with 24 ounces of filtered water and place it in the fridge. The 24 ounces of solution will make 4 individual 6 ounce servings.
6:00 PM: Drink 6-ounces of solution that you mixed up. This will be your 1st of the 4 servings you will take. After drinking, make sure to keep the rest refrigerated.
8:00 PM: Repeat by drinking your 2nd dose of the premixed solution. Continue to refrigerate.
9:00 PM: (Optional) A 20 minutes Epsom salt bath is optional but recommended. Make sure you are done and ready for bed by
9:30: You may also use a heating pad to warm your right side, where your liver is located, after your bath and before you drink your liver solution.
9:45 PM: In. your liver cleanse kit there is another bottle that contains an Oil mixture, roughly 1/2 cup. Mix the oil with the juice of one grapefruit or one lemon. Preferably pulp free. Don't drink just yet. Take the drink by your bedside and make sure you are fully ready to go to sleep.
Day of Liver Cleanse
10:00 PM: Drink the solution you have mixed. Drinking through a large plastic
straw helps it to go down easier. You may lick some raw honey in between sips. Take it all to your bedside if you want, but drink the liver solution while you are standing up. Get it down within 5 minutes (fifteen minutes for elderly or weak individuals). Lie down immediately. You might fail to get stones out if you don't. The sooner you lie down, the more stones you will get out.
After you drink the solution, lie down immediately on your back, don't move or
talk for at least 20 minutes. Lie very still. You may feel a train of stones traveling along the bile ducts, like marbles. There is no pain because the bile duct valves are open. Go to sleep. Even if you can't fall asleep, try and stay down the rest of the night. After 20 minutes. you can lay preferably on your right side, but either side is ok.
The next morning upon awakening, you can sip on some room temperature water if you are thirsty. Also, take your third dose of the solution you previously
prepped. If you have indigestion, or nausea, wait until it is gone before drinking
the solution. You may go back to bed. (Do NOT take the liquid solution before
6am. And make sure to take it NO LATER than 8 am. This will be your third serving from the refrigerated solution.
2 Hours Later, take your fourth (the last dose) of the refrigerated solution. At this point, you should start eliminating, if you haven't already. Look in the toilet
for all shades of green, yellow, even black stones. You will feel like you have
diarrhea. This will go away one you are done eliminating.
WAIT 2 HOURS after you are done eliminating before you start eating. Start by
eating something very gentle on the stomach like cooked apples, a piece of fruit, or fresh fruit juice. Wait another 1/2 hour, and you may do something such as cooked rice and Ghee (clarified butter). For more detailed dietary guidelines click here. Follow these guidelines for 1-3 days after your cleanse.
Now What???
Give your self a few days of transitioning off the vegan diet. Be gentle with your gut, as it has just gone through a major ordeal and is in a fragile state. Your liver is still dumping 3-7 days after your cleanse. That's why it's important to do 1-2 colonics the week after. This prevents stones from getting reabsorbed.
It is recommended that you continue cleansing the liver once a month until you don't pass any more stones. Sometimes the bile ducts are full of cholesterol crystals that did not form into rough stones. They appear as "chaff" floating on top of the toilet bowl water. It may be tan colored, harboring millions of tiny white crystals. Cleansing this chaff is just as important as purging stones.
This is an example of what a release from a liver cleanse can look like!
